Russian Troops Suffer Over 1,000 Casualties in 138 Attacks
Ukraine’s Armed Forces reported that Russian troops endured significant losses on Thursday, Jan. 2, with a total of 1,080 casualties resulting from 138 attacks along the front line. The majority of these attacks took place in various sectors of Ukraine, including Kurakhove, Pokrovsk, Lyman, and Vremivka. Additionally, there were attacks in Russia’s Kursk region, where Ukrainian troops are stationed.
Most notably, the Pokrovsk sector witnessed the highest number of attacks, totaling 38, followed by Kurakhove with 27, Vremivka with 24, Lyman with 16, and the Kursk Region with 10. The intensity of the assaults is evident in the statistics provided by the Armed Forces General Staff, which noted that Russian troops launched more than 3,800 artillery attacks, including over 150 utilizing multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), and over 150 airstrikes, some of which involved guided aerial bombs.
In addition to the significant human toll, the Russian army also suffered losses in terms of equipment and vehicles. The General Staff reported that 14 armored vehicles, three artillery systems, one MLRS system, 49 drones, and 41 trucks were among the assets lost during these attacks. Despite facing setbacks in their advance towards Pokrovsk, Russian troops are still making progress in the southern part of the region and in the Zaporizhzhia area.
