ammunition-shortages-in-pakistan-amid-tensions-with-ndia-mpact-of-underground-exports

Alright, so apparently Pakistan is running low on artillery ammo because they’ve been exporting a ton of it to Ukraine and Israel. And of course, this shortage is happening right when tensions are high with India. Talk about bad timing, right?

The whole artillery ammo crisis started heating up after an attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which left 26 people dead. This group called Kashmir Resistance took credit for the attack, saying they weren’t happy about all the outsiders being resettled in the area. India is pointing fingers at Pakistan for supporting these militants, but Pakistan is like, “Nah, it wasn’t us.”

Intelligence sources from India are saying that Pakistan’s ammo reserves are only gonna last them about four days in a high-intensity combat situation. That’s not a lot of time to be running out of bullets, if you ask me.

Apparently, Pakistan has been shipping off loads of artillery to Ukraine, especially after Russia decided to invade. They sent over 42,000 122mm rockets, 60,000 155mm howitzer shells, and an extra 130,000 122mm rockets. And get this, they made a cool $364 million from those sales. Not too shabby, huh?

But all this exporting has left Pakistan’s own weapons systems, like the M109 howitzers and Grad rocket systems, high and dry with no ammo to spare. Looks like they might need to start stocking up again soon.

Now, when it comes to Ukraine’s artillery shell situation, they’re not just relying on Pakistan. The European Union has promised them 2 million shells by 2026, and they’ve already coughed up two-thirds of that ahead of schedule. Talk about being ahead of the game.

Aside from the EU, Ukraine is also getting artillery shells from South Korean and South African defense companies. But here’s the kicker – Czechia is taking the lead in supplying Ukraine with over 1.5 million shells in 2024 and planning to deliver another 1.8 million in 2025. That’s a whole lot of shells!

This whole initiative is backed by around 20 countries, including Canada, Norway, and Denmark, all pitching in to help Ukraine with their ammo shortage. They’ve already delivered 400,000 shells this year, so they’re definitely making progress.

Ukraine is also producing a bunch of artillery shells on their own, cranking out about 2.5 million shells every year. They’re aiming to be totally self-sufficient in the artillery department by 2025. Looks like they’re well on their way to reaching that goal.

So yeah, that’s the scoop on the whole artillery shell situation between Pakistan, Ukraine, and India. Not really sure why this matters, but hey, it’s happening. Just goes to show you how connected the world really is, right?
