The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has given the green light to more than 1,300 types of weapons and military equipment for operation in 2024, with a significant majority of these items being produced locally, as reported by Ukrinform.
Amid the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war and uncertainties surrounding future US aid and depleted European weapon stockpiles, Ukraine is focusing on enhancing domestic production capabilities. Deputy Defense Minister Dmytro Klimenkov emphasized the importance of this move, highlighting the efficiency of Ukrainian defense enterprises in meeting frontline needs during wartime and showcasing competitiveness on the global stage.
Certified items span various categories, including 251 unmanned aerial vehicle systems (UAVs), 169 ammunition types, 153 electronic warfare and reconnaissance equipment items, 108 engineering equipment items, 97 communication devices, and 57 ground-based missile systems. This milestone achievement is credited to the close collaboration between the Ministry of Defense, Ukrainian manufacturers, and international partners.
Notably, Ukrainian companies have the capacity to produce a staggering 4,000,000 drones annually, with agreements in place for the manufacture of 1.5 million UAVs. This strategic move not only bolsters Ukraine’s defense capabilities but also strengthens its position in the global defense industry landscape.
